 I only had a short window to visit Vigan, so I planned my trip around one of the most exciting festival highlights—Bigueño Youth Day and Youth Night on January 23. Even with limited time, the experience felt full and meaningful.

Walking through Vigan during the festival instantly felt different. Colorful banners lined the streets, music echoed from different corners, and there was a strong sense of celebration everywhere. The city felt alive, especially with so many young people actively participating.

During the day, Bigueño Youth Day showcased the creativity and energy of the youth. SK-led activities, performances, and youth gatherings filled the area with excitement. It was inspiring to see young Bigueños confidently presenting their talents and working together as a community. The event didn’t just feel like entertainment—it felt like a celebration of youth involvement and leadership.

As night came, the atmosphere shifted into something even more vibrant. Bigueño Youth Night on January 23 was one of the highlights of my short stay. The stage performances, music, and cheering crowd created an unforgettable vibe. The lights, the sound of applause, and the unity of everyone watching made the night feel special, even for visitors like me.

Even though I stayed in Vigan for just a day or two, timing my visit during the festival—especially Youth Day and Youth Night—made the trip memorable. It showed me a side of Vigan that goes beyond its historic streets: a city full of passionate, talented, and proud youth.

If you’re ever planning a short trip, visiting Vigan during the festival season is definitely worth it—even more so if you catch Bigueño Youth Night on January 23.

Third Quarter Reflection

Throughout the third quarter, I gained valuable learnings that helped me grow both academically and personally. I discovered that discipline, time management, and consistency are important in completing tasks effectively. I also learned how to express my thoughts better through written works such as blog posts and reflections. These experiences allowed me to improve my critical thinking and communication skills, which are essential for my development as a student.

During this quarter, I encountered several challenges that tested my patience and perseverance. One of the main problems I faced was managing multiple academic tasks within limited time. There were moments when deadlines overlapped, causing stress and pressure. I also struggled at times with staying motivated, especially when tasks felt repetitive or overwhelming.

To address these challenges, I learned to organize my schedule and prioritize my responsibilities. I reminded myself of my goals and stayed focused on completing one task at a time. Asking for guidance, managing my time wisely, and maintaining a positive mindset helped me overcome difficulties. Through these efforts, I realized that challenges are part of the learning process and can help build resilience.

Moving on, I will continue to improve myself by applying the lessons I learned from the third quarter. I aim to be more responsible, proactive, and confident in handling future tasks and challenges. I will strive to manage my time better, stay motivated, and approach learning with a positive attitude as I move forward to the next quarter.

Jose Rizal, the Face of the Philippines: His Greatest Contribution to Philippine Society

Through his ideas, he inspired Filipinos to recognize their identity, dignity, and rights as a nation.

Rizal’s greatest contribution to Philippine society was his role in shaping Filipino nationalism through his novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. These works revealed the abuse of power by Spanish officials and friars, as well as the suffering of ordinary Filipinos. By reflecting the realities of society, Rizal encouraged people to question oppression and seek reforms, planting the seeds of unity and patriotism.

Beyond literature, Rizal believed that education was the key to freedom and progress. He strongly advocated for peaceful reform, equal rights, and proper education for Filipinos. His belief that change should come from an enlightened and morally upright citizenry continues to influence Philippine values today. Rizal showed that loving one’s country means serving it with integrity and intelligence.

Ultimately, Rizal became the face of the Philippines because his ideals live on even after his death. His martyrdom proved that standing for truth and justice often requires sacrifice. In many households, simple practices such as attending Christmas Mass, preparing traditional food, or spending time together strengthen bonds that are often overlooked during busy days. These moments create lasting memories that define the true spirit of the season.

Christmas also encourages generosity and gratitude. Acts of giving—whether through gifts, time, or service—reflect the message of selflessness that the season represents. Helping others, especially the less fortunate, reminds people to be thankful for what they have and to extend kindness without expecting anything in return. Indigenous communities possess rich knowledge systems in agriculture, environmental conservation, and community governance that promote sustainability. Practices such as forest stewardship, traditional farming, and resource sharing demonstrate how development can coexist with nature. The 2025 National Children’s Month celebration, with the theme “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!”, highlights a serious yet often hidden threat to Filipino children—online sexual abuse and exploitation. In an age where the internet is deeply embedded in daily life, children are more exposed to digital dangers that can harm their safety, dignity, and future. This celebration reminds us that protecting children is not only a family responsibility but a national duty that requires strong government action and collective vigilance.

The Philippine government has taken important steps to protect children from OSAEC and CSAEM through laws such as the Anti-Child Pornography Act (RA 9775) and the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act (RA 7610). The government must continue strengthening cybercrime monitoring, victim support systems, and international cooperation, while parents, schools, and communities must educate children about online safety. By standing together to fight for children’s rights, we affirm that every child deserves a safe environment, both online and offline, where they can grow with dignity, security, and hope for the future.

2nd QUARTER REFLECTION

During the second quarter, I learned and discovered so many new things, especially in my subjects. I gained a deeper understanding of how technology and communication connect to real-life situations, and I became more confident in expressing my ideas during class activities. I also discovered new ways to study and manage my time better, which helped me balance schoolwork and personal responsibilities. Overall, this quarter taught me the importance of consistency, effort, and staying curious in everything I do.

Of course, the quarter wasn’t always easy. I faced challenges such as meeting deadlines for projects, dealing with difficult lessons, and sometimes feeling tired from too much schoolwork. There were also times when I doubted myself, especially when I couldn’t immediately understand some topics. It was challenging to keep my motivation high, especially when stress and pressure started to build up as the quarter went on.

To overcome these challenges, I learned to manage my time more wisely and ask for help when needed. I started organizing my schedule and setting small goals to make my workload lighter and more achievable. I also reached out to my classmates and teachers for guidance, which helped me a lot. Most importantly, I reminded myself to take breaks and take care of my mental health so I could stay focused and positive throughout the quarter.

Moving on, I will continue to improve my study habits and keep a positive mindset, no matter how hard things get. I want to challenge myself to participate more actively in class and apply what I learn in real-life situations. I will also make sure to balance my academic life with rest and self-care, so I can continue to grow not just as a student but also as a person. I’m excited for what the next quarter will bring and I’m determined to do even better.

Climate change has become one of the most pressing issues affecting the Philippines today. The country, being an archipelago located in the Pacific Ring of Fire and along the typhoon belt, is highly vulnerable to natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, droughts, and rising sea levels. These environmental changes have become more intense and unpredictable over the years. The predominant reasons behind these changes include deforestation, excessive use of fossil fuels, pollution, and irresponsible waste management—all of which contribute to the buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

One major cause of environmental change in the Philippines is deforestation. Forests that once protected our lands from floods and landslides have been destroyed due to illegal logging and agricultural expansion. As a result, soil erosion and flash floods have become common, especially during heavy rains. Additionally, industrialization and the increasing use of vehicles emit large amounts of carbon dioxide, which trap heat in the atmosphere and contribute to global warming. This warming effect disrupts weather patterns, leading to more intense typhoons and irregular rainfall, directly impacting farmers, fishermen, and local communities.

Despite these challenges, Filipinos have shown remarkable resiliency. Communities often come together to rebuild homes, share resources, and support one another after calamities. Local governments and organizations have also started promoting climate awareness, sustainable farming, and disaster preparedness. However, true resiliency goes beyond recovery—it requires collective effort to prevent further damage by embracing eco-friendly habits, reforestation, and renewable energy.

SCIENCE MONTH CELEBRATION

SEPTEMBER 26, 2025

 This year’s Science Month Celebration at Ilocos Sur National High School was truly one for the books! The whole month was packed with exciting activities, mind-blowing experiments, and creative presentations that proved science isn’t just about formulas — it’s about curiosity, discovery, and fun! From exhibits to quizzes and even science-themed contests, every ISNHS student got the chance to explore the wonders of science in their own unique way.

The celebration kicked off with an opening program that got everyone buzzing with excitement. The theme for this year reminded us how important innovation and technology are in shaping a better future. Students and teachers worked together to bring science to life through experiments, exhibits, and interactive demonstrations. The classrooms turned into mini-labs and museums where creativity met knowledge — and you could just feel the curiosity in the air.

What made Science Month even more special was how inclusive it was. It wasn’t just for the “science geniuses” — everyone got to join in the fun! There were poster-making contests, quiz bees, and even eco-friendly projects that challenged students to think critically and act responsibly for the environment. Each activity showed that science isn’t just in books — it’s everywhere around us.

ISNHS INTRAMURALS

The 2025 Intramurals at Ilocos Sur National High School was definitely one of the most exciting weeks of the year! The whole campus turned into a festival of color, noise, and energy as students came together to compete, cheer, and celebrate school spirit. Everywhere you looked, there were smiling faces, booming chants, and a lot of unforgettable moments.

The opening ceremony alone was a total highlight! Each team proudly marched around the school grounds with their banners waving high and their cheers echoing across the campus. The torch lighting, the energetic dance numbers, and the loud cheers from the crowd really set the tone — everyone knew this week was going to be legendary. It wasn’t just about winning games, it was about representing your team, showing sportsmanship, and having fun with your friends.

Throughout the week, the courts and fields were full of action. Basketball games were intense, volleyball matches were thrilling, and even the e-sports competitions had everyone hyped. You could feel the teamwork and determination in every player — and the crowd’s energy made everything even better. Those moments when your classmates score or pull off a great play? Pure goosebumps!

By the end of the event, it didn’t even matter who took home the gold. Everyone walked away with memories that will last way longer than any trophy. The 2025 ISNHS Intramurals wasn’t just a competition — it was a reminder of how fun it is to be a student, to belong to a team, and to be part of something bigger. Teachers are often called the backbone of society, and this year’s Teacher’s Month theme, “My Teacher, My Hero,” perfectly captures their vital role. Teachers go beyond the classroom; they inspire, guide, and shape the minds that will build the future. Their patience, compassion, and hard work create a lasting impact that extends far beyond academics. They are true heroes—not because they wear capes, but because they dedicate their lives to helping others grow.

I express my gratitude and respect to my teachers by showing them kindness, cooperation, and appreciation every day. Simple gestures, like listening attentively, following their lessons with enthusiasm, and saying “thank you,” go a long way. I also make sure to perform well in my studies, because my success is a reflection of their dedication. Writing thank-you notes or participating actively in Teacher’s Month activities is another way to show how much I value their hard work.

Teachers work tirelessly to prepare lessons, check papers, and motivate students, often without expecting anything in return. Their sacrifices—staying up late to finish grades or giving up personal time to help us—deserve deep respect. They inspire us not just to learn facts, but to become better individuals. Truly, they are everyday heroes who mold the hearts and minds of future generations.
